CAT 2019 was conducted on 24th November 2019 in two sessions. CF Patna presents the analysis of the Forenoon Session. This year’s exam was more or less like CAT 2018 in terms of difficulty. Also, there were no surprises in any new type of Questions.
CAT 2019 as announced and expected had 3 sections comprising of 100 Questions. The First section comprised of Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension and had 34 Questions. The Second section comprised of Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and had 32 Questions. The Third section comprised of Quantitative Ability and had 34 Questions.
Now, we go in for an in-depth analysis of CAT 2019 (Forenoon Session)
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension
This section as in CAT 2019 contained 24 RC questions and 10 other questions but was little Difficult as compared to last year. There were 5 reading comprehension passages containing 24 questions split in 4 RCs containing 5 questions each and 1 RC containing 4 Questions. The RCs were difficult than 2018. 1 RC was Easy. 2 were moderate and the other 2 were difficult. All the passages were lengthy and demanded more time. The questions were of Main Idea, Inference based, Contextual based and Students of Cf Patna would have had no difficulty working on them as they have practiced all that in class.
The Non-RC section was on the simpler side and had 10 questions comprising of Para Jumbles, Summary & out of the context questions. Para Jumbles were a touch easier as they had only 4 sentences like CAT 2018 and were non MCQ i.e. TITA questions as were the out of context questions.
Overall, the level of difficulty was moderate and an attempt of around 24-26 with 85% accuracy would classify as a good score in this section.
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
With the level of difficulty of this section increasing every year, the test takers were aware of the challenges of this section. Interestingly, the section was a little easier than the previous years.
There were 8 sets with 4 questions each. These were a combination of LR, DI and Logic based questions. 2-3 sets were easy to moderate. 1-2 sets could be solved by aspirants who had done regular practice. Overall there were 4-5 sets that were doable. Overall, this section could be termed as Moderate.
A well-prepared student should ideally attempt 19-22 questions in this section with around 80% accuracy to be classified as a good job.
Quantitative Ability
This section was the quite similar to CAT 2018. Arithmetic dominated this section with 12-13 questions from Time & Work, Averages, Ratio Applications, Mixtures etc. There were around 6-7 questions from Geometry. Questions asked from Functions, Logarithm were difficult but overall 10-12 questions were quite easy. There were around 5-6 questions that were difficult and they should have been avoided. This Section was of the level Moderate to Difficult.
Overall, 23 attempts with 85% accuracy would be classified as a good job.

Overall, we can say that the paper was balanced and the aggregate score required for 99%ile would more or less like CAT 2018 only.
